The Changing Nature of Dentistry

Like most professions, Dentistry has undergone significant technological changes since James Snell designed the first reclining dental chair back in 1831*.

Dr Adrian Kat and Dr Vicky Ho are two of a comparatively small handful of Australian dentists who have invested the time, effort and expense necessary to travel abroad and further their studies in Reconstructive, Cosmetic, Implant and Neuromuscular dentistry.

Due to this husband and wife team’s never-ending pursuit of knowledge, Advanced Dental Artistry (ADA) is able to offer up-to-date methods, materials and technologies to their valued clients.

Human Nature

It is human nature to want to feel good about ourselves. It is also human nature to ask questions about the things we don’t understand.

So as to not mislead the general public, The Dental Board of Australia has strict guidelines for advertising of regulated health services, including dentistry. Therefore, in this website we will give you several answers to concerns that some of our patients raised, prior to their dental treatments:

1. I’m feeling anxious (or embarrassed)…

There’s no need to. If you have not seen a dentist for years because you hate the thought of going – or you’ve had a bad experience in the past – we understand. At ADA we always take the time to listen to you so that we know what your concerns and goals are. And most importantly – what you want.

It is not just teeth we treat. We know there is a VIP on the other side of that smile! It is always our aim to make you feel unique, valued and special.

2. I hate my smile!

This is something we hear often. You’d be amazed at the number of people who avoid smiling, or try to hide their smile.

The great news is, that just because you weren’t born with a great smile, does not mean you cannot have one. With the vast array of treatments available, we can change anything about a smile, from the colour, to the shapes of teeth, the alignment, replace missing teeth, rebuild worn or19 broken teeth.

3. How do you know which treatment is right for me?

We are all individuals. Probably the most important part of our job is to diagnose why your teeth are in the condition we find them in. So we do a comprehensive examination of your mouth and teeth and assess how they influence your smile. Then we explain our recommended treatment options specific to your case, stating the pros and cons of each, so you can make an informed choice.

With our 19 years of experience, we have completed many successful cases, some of which will be similar to yours. So we show you some examples of how we have treated other valued patients with a similar dental issue to yours.

4. What are the treatment steps?

There is no guesswork! Every step of your treatment is fully planned, designed and executed with precision, and you have a major part in the decision-making process. You have choices about the materials we use and the shapes and colours of your ‘new’ teeth.

With mock-ups of your new smile, you can see the results even before you begin! The mock-ups are done firstly on models of your teeth. Then if you like what you see, they are placed on your actual teeth in a plastic form to become your temporary "trial smile". We are able to fine-tune the lengths, shapes, curvature, function and speech, before the final ones are placed.

We have control over every step of the process so you won’t be left with a result that is less than the desired outcome.

So that history does not repeat itself, we review the original causes of your teeth problems and recommend the best ways to maintain your teeth so that old problems do not recur. We will help you maintain your teeth for life.

5. Will the treatment hurt?

We’d be lying if we said you’d never feel anything but with the amazing state-of-the-art equipment we use, you’d be amazed at how little discomfort you’ll actually experience.

We’re often able to complete complex treatments in two easy visits under sedation, so you are dreamily unaware of (or not even remember) the treatment you’ve had done! Most of our clients are amazed at how simple and comfortable their treatment process was.

6. If I’m in pain, can you see me straight away?

We know how much teeth can hurt so we’ll move heaven and earth to see you and stop the pain! Pain can be a warning of more extensive underlying dental problems, so we’ll do a comprehensive examination and discuss your options fully with you (see point 3).

If you are not prepared to have the treatment we believe is essential in stopping your pain, we would prefer that you see another dentist. We are not into short-term solutions.

7. Do you guarantee your work?

At ADA we only do long-term, high quality treatment. We stand by our work and you – 100%. All laboratory work comes with a guarantee for 5 years, and the warranty holds, providing you follow your end of the bargain and maintain your teeth as instructed.

We never recommend short-term, temporary patch-up solutions to dental problems. We believe in fixing your teeth properly so that you can eat what you like and smile happily, knowing that your treatment will last the distance.

8. You must be expensive!

As with most things, you get what you pay for. We offer great value – the right dentistry for the right price.

We choose to work with dental technicians who have been extensively trained in the fields of Cosmetic and Implant technology. They use state-of-the-art materials so we are able to deliver the aesthetics and precision we demand for your treatment satisfaction.
